The yard is a beehive of activity as the day comes to an end. Cicadas are buzzing, the whip-er-will calls out, the glow of the fireflies compete with the lights on the fence, the cats are on the prowl and the dog is running in circles. (I don’t want to mention the highway because I am trying my best to ignore it…none the less, it is there, where are all those people going????) I am lounging outside, hooked to the internet via a black cord, a green cord and an orange cord. It’s nice to be outside after a full day of baking. This is the best time of the year to be a baker, fresh local fruit is just starting to show up at the markets, first the strawberries, now the peaches, sweet and juicy, followed by black berries and raspberries. Oh and the figs!!! Right now the weather is beautiful, perfect for being outside at sunset, soon though, the dog days of summer will be on us and we’ll want for nothing but ice cold watermelon, but we’ll have a few patriotic moments around the 4th of July and go for some good old fashioned Apple or Cherry Pie, a la Mode, of course! Indulge and taste the splendor of a fresh pie made with locally grown fruit. This weeks special fruit pie was Strawberry Rhubarb, I know Washington state’s not local, but Rhubarb just refuses to grow here in this heat. Order today for next week, be one of the first to try this years peaches. Peach Pie $12 wen you order the Farmers Wild Card Tarte or $18 if you order it a la carte. You may want to consider joining the Pie a Month Club, we know you’ll be back for more. The Pie a Month costs $200, you get one pie a month, up to a $20 value, for 12 months. Click here to join today and take advantage of the great fruit season that is just getting under way.
